Quieting Your Heart.

Give Thanks For The Ordinary . Continuing with Making Your Home A Haven .
From Sarah:
Danny doesn’t usually NOTICE Things in the HOUSE as longs as he has everything he wants.
The last month and a half though: he has noticed and commented on some of the things I am doing as part of the Making Your Home A Haven . First with the initial Fall Challenge and now the Give Thanks For The Ordinary part of it.

He has lit the candle more than once if I haven’t already done so.
He picked out a couple of small candles for our bedroom and else where.
He has picked out some music to play…Fitting music we both like.

Danny has made a few attempts to eat earlier so I could eat with me. He usually eats right before he goes to bed. That may be 10 PM Or 3 AM.
I said attempts.

We are praying TOGETHER every once in awhile.
I am use to praying silently.

FIRST YEAR I didn’t have to remind him to take the day off.

He works all holidays OR MOST OF THEM……

What We Focus On Grows {Where Is Your Focus?}

From Courtney:

I remember sitting in a Sunday evening service, over a decade ago, and watching the couple in front of me worship. Together this couple sang with their hands lifted high in abandon to God.  Their worship was beautiful and in that moment blessed me.

Now let’s fast forward to a decade later. Since then, the wife has given birth to a baby with down syndrome.  After this, they discovered the husband had a debilitating disease that would lead to him being in a wheel chair and needing full care.  This couple shined with the joy of the Lord through this dark time, despite the trials they were facing.  Then sadly, the husband lost his battle to his disease and passed away.

A few Sundays ago, this same woman — who I watched a decade ago worship with her husband — was a few rows in front of me.  This time she stood with her special needs daughter beside her and both of them sang with their hands lifted high to the Lord.

Last month, the Making Your Home a Haven Series, was all about pursuing peace in our hearts and homes.  Here we see in scripture – peace and thankfulness and singing praises to God –  are all best friends.  They belong together.

I want to keep our candles going and each time we see the flicker of the candle, give thanks to God for something ordinary.  I’m not talking about the big things like our home, family and jobs (which I am deeply grateful for!) but the ordinary things we take for granted – without ever giving a prayer of thank

So this week’s challenge is a repeat:

Light your candle daily in your home and each time the flicker catches your eye, give thanks to God for an ordinary thing in your life.

Add to the candle some praise music – or if you’re like me – some Christmas music!  It’s time friends!  Praising and thanking God will drown out our sorrows.

From Sarah: Just remember that this is the MONTH We Are Thankful . Remember to be thankful for the small things we are given as well as the big things.

What we focus on grows.  Where is your focus?

If we focus on our troubles – they will grow like a mushroom.

If we focus on giving thanks – we will have merry hearts despite our troubles.

Continue to be intentional this week in your home.

From Last Week :
Give Thanks for the Ordinary

Just look around in the room where you sit right now.  I am positive there are 10 ordinary things we could easily give thanks to God for – right this minute –  but we haven’t done it.  Now’s the time!

It’s time to take our focus off of the things that are bothering us and focus on what we are thankful for.

Sometimes it’s very hard to give thanks.

But 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says to give thanks…in ALL circumstances

Let’s continue listing 5 ORDINARY things we are thankful for.

What ordinary things am I thankful for:

1. Being able to take off as soon as I walk in the door or simply NOT WEAR A BRA AT HOME. Jogging Pants and loose fitting T-shirts for home
2. Always getting a peck on the cheek as Danny goes to work.

3. Danny always coming straight home from work.

4. The deer and turkey I see every day outside my windows.

5. The Quiet at the end of the day here at Rolling Meadows Ranch
