What is Advent?

Sara Borgstede :

From Sarah :  There is a lot of history about Advent in this post.

What is Advent?

Advent is the season of the church year when we prepare our hearts and minds to celebrate Christmas.

Advent has 4 weeks, and technically continues past Christmas on December 25, when we celebrate Jesus birth, and to Epiphany (the visit of the wise men) on January 6.What is Advent?|The Holy Mess

The word “Advent” is derived from the Latin word for “coming”. We reflect on Jesus’ coming at Christmas and also prepare for when Jesus comes again on the Last Day.

Why celebrate Advent?

The two words I think of most when I consider Advent are “come” and “prepare”.

My real name is Debra (Debbie Sue). Sarah is a nickname given to me in high school. My husband has always called me that so here in Florida It's all I am known by. I was born and raised in Illinois. My son and I moved to Colorado in 1982. I taught school for 17 years. Then I ran a homeschooling/preschool/daycare until 2006 when I moved to Florida after my son, Bobby died suddenly. He was almost 26. Danny and I live and work at a state park here. I miss the mountains and climate of Colorado. I miss snow and the four seasons. I miss Bobby.

Please Comment. I don't care how long or how short. I want to hear from you.
