Emotional Triggers And Happy Memories : Friday, August 14, 2015

We all have certain songs that remind us of a special person or an event you like to remember. I have lot’s of them.
One thing my son and I shared was a love for music.

577654_3288674184704_1503191236_32294040_1111595008_n (1)Bobby and his momma. He was a year and a half here. 1981

It was amazing how much of the same music we loved . Because of this he grew up singing along with me to the songs we loved.
This particular song was popular when Bobby was 4.
We were living in in a little cabin in Cascade ,Colorado. We were literally at the Foot of the Pikes Peak Highway.

This is one of those songs we sang together, whenever we heard it and where ever we were.

I remember being at work and he was with me at the time. He’s probably came down with his babysitter when I was on a break at the restaurant I was working at in Green Mountain Falls.
This song came on the radio. We broke away from whatever we were doing and just started dancing and singing to it. Loudly and offkey.

I was just listening  to some songs on Youtube just now when it came on. It had been awhile since I had heard it.
I didn’t cry but I could have. Oh the memories. Wonderful, wonderful memories of a momma and her son singing to a song they loved.
“I Love Only You” by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

“I Love Only You”

I like to drink my beer
Spend time with the boys
After work, to down a few
Is something I enjoy
And sometimes I stay out too late,
Yes I know it’s true
But I love only you.And I like to take life easy
Work out in the yard
Sleep late on the weekends
After an all-night game of cards
And drivin’ my old chevy
On a sunday afternoon
But I love only youI like my old guitar
And I’d like to be a star and shine on you
I’d like to write a song
The whole world could sing along
I love only youI like my old memories
The girls I used to know
Some of them still have a place
My mind likes to go
Of all the ones I’ve cared for
Lord knows there’s been a few
But I love only you
Honey, I love only you.

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band was a band I fell in love with in Jr High.
Bobby loved listening to them as a child.
The first song I remember him enjoying was the following  one:

Now that was a favorite of mine. My first love , a guy I met in high school use to sing this song all the time. He ended up being my longtime friend and the man who you can blame for my first being called Sarah. (One of those stories for another time)

Anyway,  I loved Mr. Bojangles.
Well, Never as much as Bobby did. It was his number one song until the day he died. He never varied from it.

“Mr. Bojangles”

I knew a man Bojangles and he’d dance for you
In worn out shoes
With silver hair, a ragged shirt, and baggy pants
The old soft shoe
He jumped so high, jumped so high
Then he lightly touched downI met him in a cell in New Orleans I was
down and out
He looked to me to be the eyes of age
as he spoke right out
He talked of life, talked of life, he laughed
clicked his heels and stepped He said his name “Bojangles” and he danced a lick
across the cell
He grabbed his pants and spread his stance,
Oh he jumped so high and then he clicked his heels
He let go a laugh, let go a laugh
and shook back his clothes all aroundMr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles, dance

He danced for those at minstrel shows and county fairs
throughout the south
He spoke through tears of 15 years how his dog and him
traveled about
The dog up and died, he up and died
And after 20 years he still grieves

He said I dance now at every chance in honky tonks
for drinks and tips
But most the time I spend behind these county bars
’cause I drinks a bit
He shook his head, and as he shook his head
I heard someone ask him please

Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles
Mr. Bojangles, dance..

Good luck and I look forward to reading more of your work!

    1. Internet keeps going off. I will reply ASAP.

      1. No worries, please take your time

    2. Hello,
Thank you for the nomination. It means the world to me. I haven’t been accepting them because I can’t keep up as it is. I have a number of them waiting for me to do. I am trying to find a way to accept and combine them if possible.
I look forward to reading what you write .
Too tired to write any more now. I will visit you again soon. Sarah

  3. This was a lovely personal post, very interesting to find out more about you! I think a persons taste in music says a lot about them 🙂

    1. OH Sweetheart, Thankyou. I started off meaning to post a very short post but I just couldn’t stop.
HAve an awesome Sunday. Any Plans?

  4. I don’t really know the band, but the entire post feels really nostalgic, Sarah! Our kids are listening to the songs we listen to, and they are already loving the Beetles and Pink Floyd! :p

    1. Ann, I am glad I wrote the piece. It started off being a simple Bobby moment but the memories kept flooding in as I was writing.
How could I not write about it?
Bobby Loved Pink Floyd and taught me to. We both enjoyed the Beatles.
A lot of people don’t understand how I can still write about Bobby and be happy….
Parents never stop talking about their kids when they move out of the house. Why should I stop talking about 25 plus years of my life?
I have had some of my best moments…best times since Bobby died. Some right after he died. I choose to celebrate it when I can.
His memories make me smile more than they make me cry.

  5. The picture is lovely, I like the frame, and it’s very nice to see you “putting yourself out here!” Sleep through that storm…

    1. No sleeping through a storm for me. I have always been a very light sleeper. An insomniac.
Maddy, It feel good to put Myself “out there”.
I will still do more of the “other” here in the Attics. I really enjoy that part. It is my escape from Park Life . Like Watching TV is for some people.

      1. Hi Sarah.
I am not familiar with WordPress.com because I have WordPress.org, so I was unaware of the WordPress.com ability to reblog other people’s blogs. I didn’t realize it was a common practice so I do apologize if it sounded like I was trying to tell you how to run your blog. It is nice to see the real you though!

        1. Maddy, You have nothing to apologize for. I loved your comment and all the ones since then.
I have lot’s more of “me’ to come. I have been afraid to write stories again because of the memory problems and word usage…Grammar and spelling mistakes… I remember how smart I was. I taught school for 17 years. I have a Master’s Degree in Special Education. I am not the student re-learning again. I have trouble coming up with the right words . It is frustrating. So I wasn’t doing as much of it.
I have a lot of things to share. We have had so much fun WORKING and Playing here…I want to share it all. Here meaning Our Neck Of The Woods. Lake Kissimmee State Park…..Rolling Meadows Ranch….Lake Wales , Florida….
          I enjoy our visits…….

    1. I am still listening to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band And other favorites.
All is good. Better than good.
I need to sleep. I haven’t slept in over 48 hours except for maybe an hour yesterday morning… The son is shinning , although it is suppose to Storm again later. Hugs

      1. Take a nap Mama! But enjoy the sun while you can!

        1. I did both of them . It is storming here again.
I dozed more than I slept but I am good.
What’s on your agenda for the weekend?

          1. Maybe swim but nothing really. “Relaxing” or trying to
