Bobby’s Cove

June 2012 · · Taken at Rolling Meadows Ranch, Lake Kissimmee State Park, Lake Wales, Florida
June 2012 – Birthday gift from Danny 2011. I’ve been wanting a good name for a favorite place of mine- of ours. I come here to talk to Bobby…. I’d been thinking along the lines of “OUR”…something….Danny surprised me by saying he wanted to call it “Bobby’s Cove”. He’s trying to make it the OFFICIAL name of this BODY of WATER. Water Management and the State Park ok’d it. Just waiting now.

September 5, 2015
Bobby’s Cove is the official name for the cove. It is not listed on any of the maps in the area. That is ok by me.
We were calling  a section of this area “Our Hidden Path”. When we first moved here there was no path through this area any more. It was totally grown over. Danny and I had looked at the map and wanted to see this section of the cove. SO we blazed out own little trail. Little by little.
Our hidden path has been underwater most of this last year due to flooding.

NEW- Lake Kissimmee State Park : 11 Mile Buster Island Paddling Trail OPENS -EVENT SATURDAY, November 14, 2015

Lake Kissimmee State Park: Buster Island Paddling Trail

Lake Kissimmee is remote and unspoiled, offering endless reflecting waters, stunning stars in dark skies, and excellent fishing. Paddlers encircle Buster Island, a hiker and equestrian’s delight with miles of trails winding between moss-draped live oak. The paddling loop meanders through the Zipperer Canal, Lake Rosalie, Rosalie Creek, Tiger Lake, Tiger Creek, and Lake Kissimmee before returning to the boat marina. An outfitter at the marina offers boat rentals, fishing advice and Segway Tours.

Danny and I couldn’t be more delighted with this:
It is OFFICIAL:
Lake Kissimmee State Park has another TRAIL……One that we have needed for YEARS.
It has always been there but now it is part of a huge TRAIL SYSTEM and must be maintained As much as possible.
I will post PHOTOS of the 2 different trips that Danny and I have been on around this 11 mile PADDLING TRAIL.
Needless to say, I am delighted.
How did I finally here about this?
My hubby, who is OFF, EMAILED it to me.
He had just gotten word that it was online and ready to go.

YEAH.

Danny’s HUGE Project from  5 years ago. The Kayak Launch and Handicap Seat. Ramp, Gangway. Boardwalk.

Headed To The Roundup and What I Saw Along The Way

Advertisements
At Home on Rolling Meadows Ranch. Leaving for the roundup. The sun was just hitting our yard

The Bunkhouse across from us.  The sun was just starting to break through.
It was 78 degrees. Cool compared to a few weeks ago.

            Someone (ME) needs to MOW.

I am hoping to get started mowing this weekend. If not, then I will be doing it when Danny is off next week. He is off Monday and Tuesday and is taking Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off. Then he will work the weekend.
He is HOPING TO TAKE THE EXTRA 3 DAYS OFF. IT’S BEEN WAY TOO LONG SINCE HE HAS HAD ANY REAL TIME OFF.

The mile drive out. Collier Farm Drive.             The  path to the bunkhouse.
State Property on Both Sides of the lane.

The ground is drying out after  being flooded        for months.            The birds are still around, although not as        many since the water is receding more and more.

     Leaving Rolling Meadows Ranch.
It is 2 miles to The Lake Kissimmee State Park        Entrance. The property all both sides belongs
to the State. On the right is LKSP and on the          left is still Rolling Meadows Ranch.

Lake Kissimmee State Park

If you look closely, there is a momma  and baby deer.        LOOK AT THE MOMMA AND BABY DEER

                  MOMMA AND BABY

THE BABY WAS AS INTERESTED IN ME AS I            WAS INTO THEM.

           STILL WATCHING EACH OTHER

I WAS GLAD THERE WASN’T ANOTHER TRUCK COMING SO I DIDN’T HAVE TO MOVE.

THEY ARE STILL THERE.

             THE BABY FINALLY TOOK OFF.
I JUST WENT THROUGH COW CAMP GATE HEADING TOWARDS THE OLD WOODEN BRIDGE.
CROSSING OVER ZIPPRER CANAL.

TO BUSTER ISLAND.

I am really ANGRY HERE. FRUSTRATED. I just lost about an hours worth of editing the Roundup Photos. They JUST VANISHED.

So I decided to go ahead and break this up as a separate post.  Retitled it.
I was on my way to the ROUNDUP.
YIPPEE. I was HAPPY. FEELING GOOD.

Love Sarah

The Restoration At Rolling Meadows Ranch – Bobby’s Cove Part One

The Restoration at Rolling Meadows- This Area Is Bobby’s Cove

Contributors: Sarah Kasch (owner), You and Debbie- Sarah Kasch
Updated about 4 months ago · Taken at The old sod fields
Just a few years ago all of what you see here were sod fields. Lake Kissimmee has taken back much of what was. The birds, including the Roseate Spoonbills are coming back.
The section you see here is only a small part of the acreage being re-flooded. We’ve lost miles and miles of roads and service paths. I do miss those drives.

The next group of pictures is from a larger area and was started earlier. The water is where the sod fields once were. We were once able to drive all over the fields.
Now we can take a kayak.

This Is The Rolling Meadows We Fell In Love With : Part One In A New Series : Our Life Together

Advertisements

This Is the first of a series of photos and stories of  our life on Rolling Meadows Ranch….
A story of our love for each other and the park service .
I will also be updating this post for awhile yet.

Danny and I taking off on the swamp buggy.

Rolling Meadows Ranch is just a small part of what I refer to as Our Neck Of The Woods.  Danny and I have shared a lifetime of memories in the 7 years we have lived on Rolling Meadows Ranch. We went from living in our RV full time to restoring the old Cracker House to finally living in it.
This is Rolling Meadows Ranch we fell in love with even before we moved there from Lake Kissimmee State Park .
Please join me as I  take us on a photo tour of the early days on Rolling Meadows Ranch,
No seat belts required. You may get a mite dusty.

Rolling Meadows Ranch was a working sod farm when the state first bought the property back in the early 2000’s . The sod farm continued to work it until January 1 , 2009. Danny and I moved to Rolling Meadows in December 2008.
We lived in our RV on the other side of the road from where the house is. Right next to the old mobile home.
Before we ever moved over there Danny and I would drive ALL OVER the property. Miles and Miles of criss crossing paths . You could drive for hours and we did.

These photo’s are where the sod field once were. By the time we moved there and they moved out: part of the NATURAL RESTORATION had already begun. It was a wondrous time for us. A chance few people really had. We new what changes were being made. What the Action Plan was. How things were going to change.
for us, we were in love with each other and this piece of land.

We saw  birds of all kinds. I wish You could see all the birds that were around. So many tiny ones.

The picture above is of  yours truly.  I was actually working that day. Picking up trash.

The bottom photo shows one of the many paths were use to drive on.  If you look close enough at the second photo here with the weeds…you will see evidence of HUMANS being here. I picked up over a 100 large trash bags of plastic bottles and cans and other trash during the first 6 months we lived there. I was volunteering there all the time.
I have other photos  even earlier than these. By the time the photos here were taken we had long since moved over next to the old house. Still in the RV.
The feather shown above is from a Roseated Spoonbill. It is pink in color.

One of the many intersections .                                              Another intersection.

It was just beautiful here. Heaven on earth. At least for Florida. You can see the ditch between 2 sod fields. Many of those have been plowed over.
That is part of the Huge Restoration Project going on there. Water  Management and The Florida Park Service.

Bobby’s Cove At Rolling Meadows Ranch. Restoring The Sod Fields: A Huge Restoration Project.

This is a section of Bobby’s Cove that we have easy access to. With all of the restoration that has taken place in the last 6 years, we are limited in how much we can see here.
I will try and edit these pictures at a later time. I am having trouble getting things to work.
