Celebrating Advent: Keeping Jesus Christ The Focus Of The Season

Advertisements
A common feature of the Advent celebration is the Advent wreath, a simple or decorated evergreen wreath with four candles set in the circle and perhaps a fifth white candle set in the middle. Traditionally, three of the outer candles are purple, the color of royalty, celebrating the imminent coming of the Newborn King, while one of them is pink or rose-colored.  Eric D. Huntsman

“Advent is an important tradition in Germany and Scandinavia as well as being part of the Christmas worship of many branches of Christianity, including the Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Anglican and Methodist churches. The name “Advent” comes from the Latin ‘adventus,’ meaning “coming, appearance, or presence.”

As early as Pope Gregory the Great (A.D. 590–604), Advent was established as a four-week preparatory period that anticipated the celebration of the birth, or advent, of Jesus Christ as the Babe of Bethlehem. But as observed today, Advent also celebrates Christ’s presence and importance in our lives now, and, just as importantly, looks forward to his future return in glory when he will reign as Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

Although some Christian communities celebrate it differently, a common feature of the Advent celebration is the Advent wreath, a simple or decorated evergreen wreath with four candles set in the circle and perhaps a fifth, white candle set in the middle.”

Home With The Boys

From Sarah:
After I shared Courtney’s Post (from October 2010) on Sunday, I went back and started going through her blog roundup for that week.
I have discovered a few NEW-TO-ME Blogs . Home With The Boys Is one of those. I came here because of Making Your Home A Haven but I stayed around because of her “Good Morning Challenge”.
The Following IS FROM ERIN : ”Home With The Boys”

“After a weekend of reflection, I am ready to jump into this week with new focus and determination! I feel so peppy!

Don’t you just hate people who are this peppy on Monday mornings?!

Too bad!

So what do I have to share with you today?

Oh, lots of good stuff, my friends!”

#3 – I’m joining in on a couple of home challenges right now that are right in line with where my heart is – and needs to be.

For the Making Your Home a Haven Challenge, I am buying a nice big, fall-smelling candle to keep lit in our home. I LOVE Courtney’s idea to pray for peace in our home and lives every time we look at the candle. Beautiful.

PLEASE go over and read Courtney’s post today and know how desperately I am trying NOT to be the woman in House #1. It will be a VERY uphill battle, but 100% worth it. Anyone else with me on this?

I AM Thankful For The SUNSHINE! / Furnace Issues And Life/ UPDATE /

Advertisements
I AM Thankful For The SUN Shining Brightly All Through The House.

Excuse me for the really bad photos but it was the easiest way to post them.
We have had a WEEK of Gloomy Weather. Dark And Dreary Weather. Damp.
This is Florida. We aren’t use to not having SUNSHINE most of the day. Every day.

My Long Counter That Divides The Kitchen From The Dining Room (Breakfast Nook) Is clear. So Is most of the counter on the other side.Waiting for the furnace repairman to show up.

Danny is home so the diffusers aren’t running as much. The candle is put up for now.
It’s amazing how much the sun shining really changes the look inside our home.
It’s so bright where I am sitting.
I am enjoying it.
Plus, it’s not a hot sun so it feels wonderful.
It’s is 72 degrees inside which feels great to me. Danny is in his computer room with his little heater on. It’s HOT in there. Really hot.

I AM THANKFUL that I am finally learning to keep my mouth SHUT (Most of the time.) when Danny runs his heater almost 24 hours a day. Yes, Even in the SUMMER.
A RAMBLE:
As long as HE leaves me alone when I turn the AC down a little more, I do my best to ignore his having the heat on when it’s in the 80’s outside. Plus, the electric bill comes out of his check and I never see it. (Yes, I know how much it is. )
It’s taken a long time for US to get to this point.
I remember years ago when Danny wanted the AC set between 80 -82 degrees. Until 4PM.
That wasn’t so bad WHEN I Was still working /Volunteering at the park and was getting home the same time he did. Except for walking into a hot house after being outside ALL DAY.
There were plenty of arguments when I was home all day. FIRST OFF: NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO HAVE THEIR HOUSE THAT HOT. I am HOT ALL THE TIME. I always have been.
Even before I went through MENOPAUSE. Now it’s worse.
At first I kept it around 78 as much as I could. 76 when I couldn’t.
Fans ran all day as well.
Then Menopause hit hard.
I honestly did my best to keep it at 76 during the day.
We really can’t afford a huge electric bill.
Yet, I couldn’t do it all the time. 74 degrees became the norm.
Even if I wanted to go LOWER (And I DO), our AC is 25 years old.
Hence, the furnace not working now. We have needed a new one for years.
Maybe now?????????
I have never been able to convince Danny that we would sleep better with the AC set at 68 or 70 degrees. Or LOWER.
I know I would.
It took me YEARS but I set it to 72 degrees at night now.
He seldom says anything. Mainly because he is sleeping better.LOL
RANT OVER.

I was so worried about Danny FREEZING last night that I overly compensated for it. (FURNACE NOT WORKING and FLORIDA got hit with a COLD SPELL). He panicked when he realized that the furnace wasn’t working. It was 70 in the house at the time. He was already COLD.
I got out the other 2 small heaters and had them going.
Then I turned on the OVEN. OH MAN DID IT GET HOT IN HERE.

78 degrees at the far in of the living room where the thermostat is.
SO the KITCHEN HAD TO BE A LOT HOTTER.
I tried to turn off the extra heaters but Danny said to leave them on.
He was afraid he would get cold.
Did he ever bundle UP?
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It never really got much colder outside.
To give Danny credit: I understand.
I fear the AC not working or the power going off and the AC not working.
AS IN IT SCARES ME TO DEATH.
I’d stay at the motel across from the park.
I am done going a day or more WITHOUT AC IN FLORIDA.
HURRICANES!
I SURVIVE! I AM ONE TOUGH COOKIE THEN.

From Sarah :
They are installing our NEW AC /FURNACE as I write this.

Thank You Florida! Fall Is Here In Our Neck Of The Woods!

Advertisements
Yep, that’s exactly how it goes.
People were getting snow. We got 90 degree weather.

The last few years, Florida has had much hotter weather. Winter never came. In January, we saw 90 degree temperatures.
We were still

We had our first temperature below 60 last night. Just last week, it was still in the 70’s at night.

While I am thriving, Danny is freezing . Of Course he has been cold all summer when it was in the 80’s here.
The AC has only been off one day. Today will be the second day. It’s ran approximately 355 days this year. The furnace has been on the last 4 days. FIrst day it was on, it was 72 degrees in the house. The AC was still on in the afternoons as it reach 76 degrees inside.
When It’s Chilly (for Danny) I turn the furnace on about an hour before he gets home. Leaving a window open wherever I am.
And A fan.

This photos is Danny and I except it’s reversed. I am ALWAYS HOT. He Is ALWAYS cold.

I took a shower this morning . I actually felt a chill as I got out.
It was 66 in the house.
I AM SO VERY THANKFUL FOR THAT CHILL.
Very Thankful.

That would be Danny, EXCEPT he won’t bundle up and wear layers.

I got as far as the above photo when I realized 2 things :
Danny was home. (Baby girls goes crazy)
Most importantly, the house had NEVER WARMED UP.
The furnace WASN’T RUNNING.

The Furnace Isn’t Working

I AM VERY THANKFUL THAT DANNY HAS NO IDEA WHAT THIS BLOG POST IS ALL ABOUT:
MY BEING THANKFUL THAT IT’S COLD OUTSIDE.

I ADMIT:
As SORRY as I AM for DANNY right now……And I am. I never want him to be cold or to suffer.
I am very glad that it is COLD OUTSIDE AND NOT HOT.
Truth time.
Selfishly, I am loving it. Not the furnace part but just knowing I may actually have to put on WARM clothes.
I love sweaters and housecoats…..
Not even sure if I have a sweater. LOL
I am dreading it though. Danny is really frustrated.
He is still ON CALL til tomorrow morning, but is OFF Monday and Tuesday.
I had to tell Danny that the front gate isn’t working. The cows keep chewing on the wires.
So he had to deal with that, this afternoon . AFTER he was technically off.
Then He walks in the door and I hit him with the furnace not working.
It was 70 in here at the time. Should have been at least 74 degrees.

I am Thankful that we live in Florida and while we/ HE may get cold(COLDER) it won’t really be COLD out. It should only be in the 50’s.
I am very thankful that we have 3 space heaters.
Plus I can run our oven if need be.
I am thankful that the park has to pay for whatever is wrong. (Air handler isn’t turning).

I

Danny

I will get up after I post this and light a few more candles. It’s fairly dark outside and it’s not even 4 PM. I am going to find layers of clothes for us.
Get our robes out.
The booties that my mom made for us.
I will be fine.
Danny…..Not so sure about.
Love and Hugs From Florida,
Sarah
