Making My Home A Haven is important to me. Sharing homemaking skills. Recipes and food. Bible Studies. This is a treasure chest of goodies. So take a seat. Have a glass of tea and enjoy. You will learn all about who I am.
The above quote pretty much sums up how we should handle everything in our lives. How we react to any given moment or action is usually how the situation gets handled. React calmly instead of panicking and you will have CONTROL over the outcome.
Go places you have never been. Ask for things that are important to you. If you don’t step up to the plate and do something,
You will never get anywhere.
You will always be stuck right where you are.
I can NOT say that I always choose what is right and what I should do. When it comes to mornings and forcing myself out of bed when Danny isn’t home, I sadly lack in this department. I usually roll over and try to shut out what is going on around me. As it gets cooler out, this problem won’t be quite so hard. I can and do get MOTIVATED During the FALL and WINTER MONTHS.
It is much easier to have a cheerful morning when I think positive when I first get up. If I can stay up and watch the SUN RISE, My whole mood is brighter. Even when I go back to bed, This mood carries me through the day. I smile as the sun rises and shines brightly, waking up the world around me. The birds start to sing. The sky clears up. The sun shines on the grass. Shines on my windows. I see it radiate throughout the house. It brights the inside of the house. Everything glows. My steps become lighter and I want to sing. To dance at this new day that I have been given.
I say this a lot. If Danny says anything positive in the morning my day is filled with JOY. I get more done and I am just happy.

Fling Open Your Doors and Let Others In!
So…keep lighting those candles….
Keep loving from the oven….
Listen for those
Reach out and gather in.
Don’t just make loving your family your aim during this challenge. As a family, reach out and bring others into your circle of love! Brainstorm as a family a person—or perhaps even another family—whom you can make the object of your love and kindness this week.
Maybe it is a “necessary person”—someone who helps your family to get life done like the:
grocery store clerk
Perhaps it is a family new to your church or neighborhood.
Do something as simple as thanking them verbally and offering a small gift, such as a gift card or other small token. Or, light that candle, fire up that oven (or order pizza—it’s all good!) and open your home for a little old-fashioned hospitality.
Stir up one another to love and good works—just like our verse instructs us to! Not so others will be wowed by your family’s generosity but so others will be pointed to Jesus.
When I was a girl, people seemed more willing to stretch whatever food they had and welcome others to their table. I often heard people of my mother’s generation say how their parents—who lived through the Depression—simply used to throw another few cups of water in the soup to make it stretch further when company dropped by. But today, in a culture saturated with Pinterest images of perfection that showcase lovely tablescapes, stunning décor, and gourmet fare, we aren’t so willing to have others into our home to break bread or share a plate of nachos.

This week we are focusing on the kitchen – the heart of the home. At the bottom of this post you will find this week’s challenge, some fun conversation starters for kids and Women Living Well’s Favorite Recipes! The kitchen is not just for cooking but for connecting. God created taste buds, the sense of smell, and the eye that is drawn to beautiful things – to please our senses. […]This post will be sharing multiple photos and quotes from the various articles.
When we hear a heart drop, we can brush it aside and go on our busy way. Or, we can respond with an act of kindness. It may be words of reassurance, a clever small gift, an act of service, or gift of your time. Making Your Home A Haven is not a new concept.
Women have been doing it for centuries.
Live In Gratitude: The Tidy Mom
This week, focus on the kitchen, the heart of the home.
Super simple. But oh, so important!
By that, I don’t mean that making gourmet dishes is key or that presenting them in a fancy-fied way is the goal—although if you are the gourmet and fancy-fied type, then go for it! The issue is to make the kitchen a warm, inviting place where people are fed and souls are nourished—however that looks in your home.
Gourmet and fancy? Sure. If that is how you roll.
Good ol’ meat and potatoes with a homemade pie for dessert? Fabulous!
Dine on organic veggie main dishes and fresh fruit to end it on a naturally sweet note? Awesome!
Or, does your schedule only allow for a menu tonight of a frozen pizza tossed into the oven and store-bought salad as a side? No problem!
Women Living Well.
CREATE AN atmosphere of coziness in your home.
Make it your aim to create an inviting, welcoming spot for your family; a haven with an aroma and look that is pleasing to the eye.
From Women Loving Well :
Cook things with pleasant aromas like homemade bread, pies, and cookies. Don’t wait to have a reason to make something special – do it simply to show love to your family. Invite your kids and/or hubby to cook along side of you – make memories in the kitchen – test tasting, being creative, laughing and loving. Remember the importance of dinner time around the table as a family.
Live out the fruit of the Spirit this week by showing
love, goodness and faithfulness to your family.

The Encouraging Home :
I Slept From 9 PM Wednesday Night Till 4 PM Thursday Afternoon.
I was so tired last night. Oh so tired. I remember walking into the kitchen to tell Danny I was going to bed. He just looked at me and then at the clock.
I fell asleep right away. I seldom do that.
I never heard anything until Danny came to bed. Never heard all the sounds that go on at night that always keep me awake. The interaction between Danny and Mr, Bojangles. The noise of the animals underneath the house or the rain that fell.
I slept soundly. Dreaming Of Bobby and his cousins when they were little. Dreaming of my parents. I feel as if I dreamed all night. Wonderful dreams of yesterday.
This morning, the sun was bright and I just rolled over on my side.
I heard Danny get up and I looked at the clock. It was 9:10.
I’d been sleeping for 12 hours.
I went back to sleep and slept soundly. More wonderful dreams.
Even when I finally got up at 4 PM, I could have slept some more. Yet, I knew I wouldn’t dream again. I got up.
I’d slept for 19 hours.
A little sad, that Bobby can only be heard in my dreams and on a few old cassette tapes I have.
Yet, happy and very thankful. that for hours….We were together again.
Mom and her son….Simply having fun.
Love you Bobby. Love my Memories Of You. My Dreams.
From Sarah : This is another New-To-Me Blog that was part of the ROUNDUP on Courtney’s post from 2010. I am enjoying reading these. I may have read them when they were first posted but don’t remember them. I didn’t have a blog back then. From The Making Your Home A Haven Series By Women Living Well And Good Morning Girls This one is Carebear And Co. Still active and going strong in 2019. The following is from Carebear And CO.
” I was actually kind of formulating a post relating to this subject in my head-before I read Courtney’s post at Women Living Well . But it was one of those ideas that I was just playing with in my head as I went about my duties. It might never have made it to my blog if it weren’t for her challenge.
Courtney mentions two homes. Number 1 has a mom who is distant, distracted, crabby, discontent and doesn’t pray. The woman of the home in number 2 is engaged (connected), manages her time wisely, pleasant, content and prays. As much as I hate to admit it-even to myself-I see more of myself in the description of the first woman. “
From Sarah : I believe most of us may fall into the first category at least part of the time. Homemaking can be very rewarding and fulfilling. It can also be stressful and wanting “MORE IN LIFE.” While reading her post from November 10 OF THIS YEAR I realized that it tied into OUR MAKE YOUR HOME A HAVEN SERIES .
“Moving is EASY. I know that’s probably not a statement most people who have moved would agree with but bear with me. Moving is easy…compared to making where you’ve moved a real home. I’m not talking about a house. We are working on that but it’s mostly within our control. Furniture, your things put away and pictures on the walls. It’s a work in progress but it’s also a labor of love and just takes time. But we choose when and how. We aren’t dependent on anyone else. “ http://carebearandco.blogspot.com/
“When the temperatures begin to dip, the leaves change colors and pumpkin spice abounds, you know Hallmark Channel’s seasonal programming to celebrate the fall, Halloween and Christmas can’t be far behind. We love the Hallmark Channel’s family-friendly programming that centers around love, community, seasonal gatherings, holiday traditions and everything cozy!
The south has always celebrated family and traditions, and to that end, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite Hallmark movies airing in the 2019 holiday season with a southern connection. Whether the lead actor has roots in the south or the movie is set in a southern city, we’re sharing the ten Hallmark Channel movies we’re watching this season to get us in the mood for pumpkin patches, trick or treating… and of course, Christmas.”
From Sarah : This post was written in October so Halloween is still being celebrated.
How To Use the SOAK Bible Study Method and Bible Coloring Chart
Update From Sarah :
The Original Comments below were written years ago. I now have a couple of Study Bibles and more supplies. We also have a copier which saves time running to and from the Ranger Station at the park.
Courtney is awesome.
I have been doing Bible Studies for years. I am now doing the SOAK method more and more.
I also do my own version of the Bible Coloring Chart.
Whatever makes it easier for you to learn is what you should do.
I am still in need of a Study Bible…..
So I do what I can with print outs from the Bible when I can get them. I have to borrow the copier from the park.
Much of the time I have to write out what I want to save.
Or make notes on the computer.
Here is the SOAK method I refer to in the video:
S – The S stands for Scripture
O – The O stands for Observation
A – The A stands for Application
K – The K stands for Kneeling in Prayer
Welcome to Good Morning Girls! We are so glad you are joining us. od created us to walk with Him, to know Him, and to be loved by Him. He is our living well, and when we drink from the water He continually provides, His living water will change the entire course of our lives. Jesus said: “Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” ~ John 4:14(esv) So let’s begin.
The method we use here at GMG is called the SOAK method. •
S – The S stands for Scripture – Read the chapter for the day. Then choose 1-2 verses and write them out word for word. (There is no right or wrong choice – just let the Holy Spirit guide you.) •
O – The O stands for Observation – Look at the verse or verses you wrote out. Write 1 or 2 observations. What stands out to you? What do you learn about the character of God from these verses? Is there a promise, command or teaching? •
A – The A stands for Application – Personalize the verses. What is God saying to you? How can you apply them to your life? Are there any changes you need to make or an action to take? • –
The K stands for Kneeling in Prayer – Pause, kneel and pray. Confess any sin God has revealed to you today. Praise God for His word. Pray the passage over your own life or someone you love. Ask God to help you live out your applications.
SOAK God’s word into your heart and squeeze every bit of nourishment you can out of each day’s scripture reading. Soon you will find your life transformed by the renewing of your mind!
