Two Lessons I Have Learned on Cleaning and Organizing (from Preparing to Sell My Home) – Young Wife’s Guide Young Wife’s Guide  I’m not the queen of cleaning, and organizing has never been a natural habit of mine. Getting back into routines in the New Year – Young Wife’s Guide

Getting back into routines in the New Year
on January 14, 2016 by Jami Balmet

I am focusing on cultivating more joy in my life this year. Slowing down long enough to be thankful for all that God gives. Choosing gratitude and intentionally being content, truly content, throughout my days. My goals and focus this year all have to do with choosing JOY!

But the thing is, it’s really hard to focus on Joy, when you’re living in chaos! And our days have been chaos for the last 6-12 months. Having a set of twins, 2 sibling’s weddings, Thanksgiving, my husband’s birthday, Christmas, my older twins 3rd birthday, and my birthday all within six months is the perfect recipe for a chaotic Fall.

Setting a CHIRSTmas Atmosphere in Your Home – Young Wife’s Guide

I want to savor this season. I want to build special memories for our four boys. I want to slow down and be able to focus on Christ and the Gospel throughout the month of December. So I’m preparing early this year and planning ahead.

It has already helped me feel like I’m being more intentional with this season that tends to fly by so quickly. So I’m excited today to pass along all my favorite things to help set the CHRISTmas atmosphere in your home. You’ve still got plenty of time to implement these things.

Keeping a Joyful Heart in the Mundane Tasks of Home Keeping
Let’s be honest for a minute shall we?

Cleaning is no fun. It just isn’t, especially when you live in an active house with growing children, the house doesn’t stay clean for long. Just because it isn’t fun doesn’t mean we don’t have to do it. We do!

Part of our role as the keeper of our home involves tasks that are often mundane. While they aren’t necessarily the most fun things to do, I’ve found a few simple disciplines that have helped me to enjoy doing them and also look forward to them.

Pray Over Your Home
When was the last time you prayed over your home? I mean pray over the specific rooms and the people who live there?

Why not take the time while you are cleaning to offer up prayers?

Hf #46: Making an idol of Your Home (and Homemaking) – Young Wife’s Guide

An example from Mary & Martha
We are going to look at a familiar passage of the Bible to help illustrate this. The story of Mary and Martha. We enter the scene in Luke 10 and we see Jesus lovingly teaching inside Mary & Martha’s home. Mary is sitting quietly as Jesus’ feet, soaking in his words, being near her savior. Meanwhile, Martha is busy preparing their home for all these extra guests! She’s running to and fro lighting fires, preparing meals, making beds, and more. She’s busy practically serving the Lord…

But suddenly, she realizes she is alone in the kitchen kneading the dough…where did her sister Mary go who is supposed to be helping to get dinner on the table? Martha becomes angry and asks Jesus to tell her lazy sister to help her! Jesus instead says, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” – Luke 10:42

Hf #46: Making an idol of Your Home (and Homemaking) – Young Wife’s Guide

It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the details of our house and managing our home because these are the small details we live in every single day. We focus on organizing our morning well and sending the kids outside so play so we can finally mop the kitchen. Then not even 30 minutes later, the kids troop through the kitchen in their muddy shoes and ruin all of our hard work, even though they were warned countless times to go in through the back door and take their shoes off outside.
